Southwark Cathedral is dedicated to being an inclusive church which means we welcome everyone

Newcomers

Whether you are in London as a student, or you work here or have made your home here, we hope the Cathedral can be a community where you feel you belong; and as we get to know you, we hope to help you make the next step in your faith journey, however big or small that step may be.

When you are at a service, please either bring with you a Newcomers’ Welcome card which can be found here or ask one of the Cathedral Stewards for a copy.  Once you have completed this, return it to one of the Cathedral Stewards.  We will then be in touch to invite you to a Newcomers’ Evening where we can tell you more about what the Cathedral has to offer.

Children and Young People

Children and young people are an important part of our Cathedral family and play a vital role in our life together.

Junior Xpress

Junior Xpress 1 (Reception to School Year 2) JuniorXpress 2 (School Years 3-6)

Children meet with two adult leaders at 11.00am on Sundays for a programme of stories and activities designed to help them grow in their faith and understanding. JuniorXpress 1 meet in the Education Centre. JuniorXpress 2 meet in the Queen Elizabeth Room. They rejoin their parents in church in time for Holy Communion.

The Junior Xpress blog can be found here

YouthXpress

Young people (Year 7 and above) meet on the second and fourth Sunday of the month in the John Trevor Williams Room for breakfast at 10.30 am. This is an open, friendly, secure, fun and reflective space for young people to explore the important questions in life with a team of young adult leaders.

Sessions end at 11.45am in time for group members to return to the service in the Cathedral.

Creche

During the 11am Sunday Eucharist crèche facilities are available in the Education Centre for accompanied children under 4.

Participation of young people in worship

As well as our choirs, there are opportunities for children and young people to read lessons and to lead prayers of intercession in Cathedral services, as well as helping in other age-appropriate ways.

For more details of activities for young people please contact the Sub Dean by email or telephone 020 7367 6706.

The Cathedral Chapter works hard to safeguard children and young people, vulnerable adults and those in abusive relationships.  For further information please visit our Safeguarding page here.
