Baptism
Southwark Cathedral has a lively and growing congregation and we are delighted to baptise those who live in the Cathedral Parish or those who are regular worshipping members of our congregation.
Please check which parish you live in by visiting the website A Church Near You here
Confirmation
Confirmation is usually celebrated from the age of 11, and adults as well as children may be confirmed. There are usually three diocesan Confirmation services each year:
- The Eve of Candlemas
- The Eve of Pentecost
- The Eve of Christ the King
Preparation for confirmation is usually organised locally in parish churches. Those who wish to be confirmed at the Cathedral can register here: https://forms.office.com/e/A3375431v8
There is also a Cathedral Confirmation course, with Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Preparation groups for adults and children usually begin meeting in February.
Adults who have not previously been baptised are prepared for Baptism and Confirmation.
We also offer Reception into the Church of England (for those who have been episcopally confirmed in another denomination - see Canon B28 of the Canons of the Church of England) and Renewal of Baptismal Vows (for those already baptised and confirmed in the Church of England).
If you are interested in being confirmed, you may wish to approach your parish priest in the first instance. If you would like to enquire further about Confirmation at the Cathedral, please email the Canon Pastor's Assistant (Thomas Bridges) by email or telephone 020 7367 6736.
Admission to Holy Communion
Children in Year 3 and older who have been baptised and are regular worshippers at the Cathedral are warmly invited to be Admitted to receive Holy Communion. This will take place on the Feast of Christ the King Sunday 26 November 2023 at 11am. We will meet for a preparation workshop at the Cathedral on Saturday 4 November from 2pm to 3.30pm.
To enquire further about Admission to Holy Communion, please contact the Sub Dean by email or telephone 020 7367 6706.
