London Gardens Trust are proud to announce the launch of this year’s event, which will unlock over 100 secret and hidden green gems to members of the public, plus a few new additions for 2022, from across the capital. This year, we are pleased to welcome leading residential developer London Square as title sponsor.

Now in its 22nd year, after a break due to the pandemic, London Square Open Gardens showcases a range of green spaces from the historic and traditional to the new and experimental. They include private and rooftop gardens, community allotments and secret sites nestled between some of the city’s best known historic buildings, plus five new sites are opening their doors this year.

Most gardens are never open to the public and profits from ticket sales will go towards helping the London Gardens Trust protect some of the city’s most valuable green spaces

This secret riverside garden, just beside the Globe Theatre, belongs to the Dean of Southwark's private residence and dates back to 1712.

Hidden away from neighbouring and bustling tourist areas, it has become a tranquil wildlife haven. The Deanery garden has been planted with mature shrubs, trees and herbaceous plants and is tended by the cathedral's gardener.

Access to this small garden is via historic Cardinal Cap Alley, which is very narrow. Visitor numbers may have to be restricted at busy times.

We are delighted to be joined  by Rye Poets and composer David Clark Allen who combine talents to present a sound sculpture inspired by bees. Hive Chat creates a unique buzz of poetry and music to heighten the senses in the Dean’s garden. Renowned for their choral style the Rye Poets have found with Clark Allen a rich sound tapestry to complement their multi-layered wordscapes.
