Southwark Cathedral is excited to bring back a day of heritage and mudlarking for visitors to explore!

Discover London's craft heritage and the hidden stories of the River Thames at the Heritage Craft and Mudlarking Festival.

Visit the churchyard for demonstrations and crafts that were used to build London, or head into the Cathedral to discover objects found by mudlarks on the Thames foreshore. Meet mudlarks and the craftspeople, watch demonstrations, handle ancient artefacts, talk to archaeologists, historians and conservationists, or take part in family’s drop-in activities! There is something for everyone.

Throughout the day you can:
  • Meet over 20 mudlarks and hear the stories behind their fascinating discoveries
  • Watch live demonstrations of heritage crafts including stone carving, wood carving, wool spinning and traditional clay pipe making
  • Handle historic artefacts and discover Southwark's rich history with local heritage experts
  • Join family-friendly activities including pomander making, origami Thames boats, the Tower Bridge 'Jumping Bus' craft and a festival mudlark trail
  • Drop into short Cathedral highlight talks exploring the building's architecture, stained glass, Shakespeare connections and 1,000-year history
  • Browse the Cathedral Shop, enjoy refreshments and explore festival stalls

Please note that the programme is subject to change.

The festival runs from 10.00am–4.00pm, with last entry at 3.30pm.

Tickets are available in advance via Eventbrite. A limited number of tickets will be available on the door, subject to availability, but we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
