Welcome to Southwark Cathedral and we hope you enjoy your visit
Members of the Cathedral Community are here to assist should you require information or help. We are sorry that some parts of the Cathedral are not accessible for all visitors but we are working to improve our facilities.
For example, the Harvard Chapel where the midday Eucharist is celebrated is currently inaccessible to wheelchair users.
Induction Loop
An induction loop for people who are hard of hearing is in operation at services for those sitting in the Nave.
Large Print
Service sheets are available in large print at the back of the Cathedral. Please ask one of the Stewards for assistance.
Parking
It is difficult to park in the London Bridge area but there are three disabled parking spaces in Park Street which is a 10 minute walk from the Cathedral.
There is a car park in Southwark Street, which is a 15 minute walk from the Cathedral. The area is often very busy because of Borough Market, Shakespeare's Globe, the Shard and other attractions which are close to the Cathedral.
Toilets
There are two toilets in the Cathedral precint suitable for people with disabilities, one of which meets the current regulations (2.48 x 1.4m). One is at the end of Lancelot's Link on the ground floor and close to the Cathedral Shop. The other is in the basement near to the Refectory Cafe and can be accessed by a lift. Both toilets need a radar key which can be obtained from the stewards, welcomers, vergers or shop staff.
Wheelchair Access
Step-free access on all days of the week is from the Millennium Courtyard off Montague Close. We are sorry that at present there are no self-opening doors. On Mondays to Fridays 9.00am to 4.30pm if you telephone 020 7367 6700 in advance we will be happy to provide assistance. There is a lift to meeting rooms and down to the basement. Access to the Cathedral is at the shop end of Lancelot’s Link, where there is a lift. The Nave is accessible for wheelchairs and there are temporary ramps into the South Transept and the Retrochoir. Access to the High Altar, Choir and Retrochoir is available via the Parish Door.
Please ask a member of staff should you require any assistance.
Wheelchair Access on Sundays
The gate on Cathedral Street gives step-free access for Sunday services. Stewards are very happy to open the Cathedral doors and to help you choose the best possible place for you to sit. Please let them know if you would like to receive Communion where you are sitting. Alternatively, spaces for wheelchairs at the altar rail are always available.
Lifts
There are lifts at either end of Lancelot’s Link giving access to the Cathedral, meeting rooms and toilets.
Assistance Dogs
Assistance Dogs are welcome at all times in the Cathedral and other areas. Water can be made available for them.
Eating and drinking
There is step-free access into the Refectory, which is open every day, via the Millennium Courtyard and Lancelot’s Link.
