Consultation on the next Bishop of Southwark
What do you most value about our diocese? What do you think the main challenges for the next Bishop of Southwark will be? What qualities or characteristics do you want to see in our next diocesan bishop?
Following the forthcoming retirement of the The Rt Revd Christopher Chessun as diocesan bishop, the search has begun for the next Bishop of Southwark.
Southwark Cathedral would like to invite our whole community to take part in a short online survey to help inform this important appointment.
The Bishop of Southwark plays a major role in shaping the life of the Church across south London and east Surrey, as well as engaging with the wider civic and cultural life of the capital. This is an opportunity to have your say and reflect on the kind of leadership needed for future years.
The survey takes around five minutes to complete and is anonymous. Your responses will help guide the Crown Nomnations Commission as they begin the discernment process.
We particularly encourage those who feel their voices are not always heard to fill out the survey. If that is you, or someone you know, your perspective is especially valued.
The deadline to complete the survey is 12pm, 1 April 2026.
