Lammas Day Eucharist | Blessing of Bread Ahead Bakery and the First Grain
In person only
Each year, the Cathedral joins our friends and neighbours at Bread Ahead bakery in Borough Market to mark Lammas Day.
Lammas Day is an ancient feast of thanksgiving for the first fruits of the wheat harvest, dating from Anglo-Saxon times.
Having Bread Ahead Bakery opposite our gates has given us the opportunity to make this celebration part of our worship and keeping of the Christian year. It provides us with time to pause and reflect on our connection with the agricultural world and the source of our food.
We recognise bread as a central element in our worship – a staple of both altar and table. As we gather as a Eucharistic community and share the Lammas loaf, we give thanks to God, the giver of all good things.
11:45am – We gather at Bread Ahead for the blessing of the first grain, Bakery and School
12:15pm – Eucharist using the Lammas loaf baked by Bread Ahead
