Honouring Doorkins
We were a little more than surprised to be contacted by the London Borough of Southwark
To be told that the Mayor ofSouthwark Cllr Barrie Hargrove would be honouring Doorkins Magnificat with the freedom of the Borough. Doorkins died in October of last year but is still held in huge affection by very many people in Southwark and around the world. The Mayor came to the Cathedral last week to present the certificate and citation to the Dean. Paul Timms, who cared for Doorkins in her last year, was present, as was Hodge, our new Cathedral cat.
We are delighted. Whilst she is not around to enjoy this Freedom we know that she touched the lives of thousands of people. So far 80,000 people have watched the Service of Thanksgiving we had for her and we continue to receive messages from people around the world who found that service comforting and encouraging.
So thank you to the Mayor of Southwark and the Borough. There can be few cats in the world so honoured in life and in death.
