Complete Organ Works of Cesar Franck
To mark the 200th anniversary of César Franck’s birth, James Gough (Assistant Organist at Southwark Cathedral) will be presenting a series of five recitals covering the composer’s complete organ works
A pupil at Liege and Paris Conservatories, Franck was organist at Sainte-Clotilde as well as Professor at the Paris conservatoire. He was one of the most important French composers of the 19th century, expanding romanticism in organ music to new heights. A famous improviser, his music has a free quality with soaring melodies and sumptuous harmonies.
The wonderful Lewis instrument at Southwark Cathedral is an ideal organ to perform these works, with its wide ranging colours and rich, velvet tone.
These recitals take place on the following Monday's from 1.20pm - 2.00pm.
