The Friends of Southwark Cathedral is a wide network of people who have the welfare of the Cathedral at heart
Some live or work nearby and worship regularly at the Cathedral. Some now live far away but still feel part of Southwark traditions. All play a vital part in contributing to the future of the Cathedral and its mission.
The Friends provide financial support:
- to repair, maintain and beautify the fabric of this glorious building
- for the Cathedral choirs when on tour
- to help the Chapter in their mission
- to contribute in a host of ways to the life and work of the Cathedral
Recent gifts from the Friends to the Cathedral:
- £12,000 for the design of new floodlighting
- £3,000 to update the tablets listing the names of former and current Bishops, Deans and Sub-Deans inside the Cathedral
- £2,000 to support the Girls’ Choir tour of Krakow
- £16,500 for this Cathedral website launched in 2017
- £25,000 for urgent work to upgrade the Cathedral's sound system
- Easter eggs distributed to the congregation on Easter Day
- Flowers in the Cathedral at Christmas and Easter
- £7,000 to support the Girls' Choir tour to Krakow and Paris
- £5,000 to purchase new cassocks for the Vergers, Director of Music and Lay-Clerks
