Southwark Cathedral welcomes SAMS
On Saturday 15 February, we welcomed representatives from Southwark Against Modern Slavery (SAMS) to raise awareness of the issue of modern slavery and exploitation. Over the course of the day, the SAMS team spoke to hundreds of visitors from all over the world about their work and the Cathedral's commitment to social justice.
Southwark Against Modern Slavery started life in 2019 as Reigate Archdeaconry Social Justice Focus (RASJF) in response to local church members wanting to ‘do something’ to address issues of social justice in their area. It soon became clear that the group should put all its energy into raising awareness of modern slavery, not least because it seemed that no one else ‘held this space’.
SAMS is one of a number of charities that Southwark Cathedral is working with across the year as we seek to raise awareness of the issues of midern slavery and exploitation.
