New Interim Minister-in-Charge for St Hugh's

On Sunday 16th March it was announced that The Reverend Delorine Green is to be Interim Minister-in-Charge at St Hugh’s, Bermondsey, beginning on Sunday 23 March.

undefinedMother Delorine was born and raised in South East London. She trained and worked as a nursery nurse, then went on to become a lecturer in a South London further education college, specialising in post-compulsory education and training. Delorine spent 17 years working in this field and during that time progressed into management as Head of Curriculum for Childcare and Health and Social Care.

Ordained five years ago, Mother Delorine was an ordinand at St John’s, East Dulwich, and served her curacy title at St Peter’s, Walworth, and St Clement with St Peter covering a two year interregnum. She will have full-time care of St Hugh’s for a period of time as she discerns the next chapter in her ministry. The Dean is technically the Rector of the parish but, as recently with Thomas Sharp, a Minister in Charge is appointed to oversee the liturgical and pastoral life of the church.

The Churchwardens of St Hugh’s, Clive Greenwood and Bola Oriaku, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Mother Delorine as the interim Minister-in-Charge at St. Hugh's. We look forward to her ministry with us as St. Hugh's begins a new and exciting chapter serving the people of Bermondsey and the surrounding community. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Dean and Archdeacon for their assistance in making this important appointment happen so smoothly’.

The Dean, Mark Oakley, said: ‘I am thrilled that Delorine is to shepherd the wonderful community of St Hugh’s. She is a dedicated pastor, and I know that the locality will also find a good friend and partner in her. I am also delighted that she will join us at the Cathedral for fellowship and prayer.’

Reflecting on her appointment, Mother Delorine said: ‘This is a wonderful opportunity in my continuing ministry, to be Minister-in-Charge at St Hugh’s, I’m very humbled and I look forward to continuing doing God’s work with the faithful people there!’
