New Cathedral Music Outreach Project

Brand new outreach project launched at Southwark Cathedral.

This afternoon (5 June) our Organist, Ian Keatley, and Sub-Organist, Simon Hogan, welcomed over 200 school children to our first ever Organ Extravaganza. The event was part of the new Music Outreach Project. Across the afternoon, the children were treated to a medley of popular film tunes and learned more about the Grand Cathedral Organ with lots of fun and singing for everyone.

Ian commented, ‘It was so much fun to welcome so many children to the Cathedral today. They learned lots about the Cathedral Organ and loved hearing their favourite theme tunes blasting out on full organ! Bravo to my colleague, Simon Hogan, for his fantastic organ playing.’

The next part of our new outreach project takes place on 16 June when we invite parish choirs from across the Diocese to sing Evensong with the Southwark Cathedral Great Choir. So far, the following choirs have signed up for this grand occasion: Southwark Cathedral, Croydon Minster, St Michael and All Angels Croydon, St Alfege Greenwich, St Mary's Battersea, St Peter’s Streatham and St Mary the Virgin Wimbledon.
