Voluntary opportunities at Southwark Cathedral
We aim to involve volunteers fully in the work of the Cathedral. We recognise that participation by volunteers is an essential and complementary element to the work of paid staff. The principal objective is to further the mission and ministry of the Cathedral.
There are many opportunities for volunteering in the Cathedral. As opportunities arise, they will be listed here. Current roles include:

- Junior Xpress Leaders
- Youth Xpress Leaders

- Volunteer Receptionists
- Overnight Robes Volunteers
Cathedral Guides
Southwark Cathedral is looking to recruit volunteer Cathedral Guides to help join our team and deliver amazing Cathedral tours including group visits, drop in tours and evening tours. We offer extensive and in-depth training, expenses once volunteering and the opportunity to join us on outings to archives and museums.
Training takes approximately three months with sessions alternating between Wednesday evening and Saturdays starting on 26 April 2025. A written and practical test has to be undertaken and passed to become a Cathedral Guide. New Guides are given priority to take tours and must commit to a minimum of one year’s guiding at the Cathedral.

Volunteering with the Cathedral gives you the opportunity to learn more about our history and community, meet people and develop skills. In return for your valuable time, we offer training sessions, special trips and an annual volunteer party. Our volunteers also receive a 10% discount in our shop and café.
