London Docklands Singers return to the Cathedral
London Docklands Singers with Thames Chamber Choir, the Choir of the London School of Economics and the Marcel Sinfonia
- Andrew Campling, conductor
- Sir Andrew Parmley , organ
This concert features choral favourites such as Handel's celebrated Zadok the Priest, Mozart's beautiful Ave verum corpus, and Haydn's dramatic motet Insanae et vanae curae performed by the London Docklands Singers. Andrew Campling's Concerto for Organ, Percussion and Strings offers a portrait of the City of London: the work includes cries and folksongs associated with the City, and reference is made to the 'Second Great Fire of London' which took place on 29th-30th December 1940, during the London Blitz. The concerto was commissioned by Sir Andrew Parmley, this evening's soloist. In Paradisum is a setting of the Requiem Mass, and is dedicated to Andrew's grandparents, William & Phyliss Campling, and James & Marjorie Allen.
This concert is in aid of the Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers.
Tickets from £10, available from the London Docklands Singers website.
