Peaceful protest is a powerful and public way to make our voices heard.
Labyrinths are ancient forms. The shape of this labyrinth, installed in the South Transept, reminds us that people who are arrested have their fingerprints taken.
In Europe, the right of peaceful assembly is increasingly restricted. The Fingerprint Labyrinth is inspired by the Amnesty International 2024 report, Under Protected and Over Restricted: The State of the Right to Protest in 21 European Countries.
You are invited to
- move around the labyrinth and reflect on the right to protest
- listen to the newly written poems and soundscape
- add your fingerprint and thoughts
Poetry readings and live music will take place during the week.
Our voices are raised on behalf of the silent earth, for ourselves as LGBTQI people and allies, against war, against the racism and prejudice we face, against Islamophobia and antisemitism and more in this time of climate crisis, violence and inequality.
The Fingerprint Labyrinth is a project of the Iona Community, created by Meg Wroe, Kaz Reeves, Patricia Livingstone and Catriona Robertson. It is travelling across Europe during 2025.
