Walking with Friends | August
Our next pilgrimage will begin in August. Following our journey from Rochester to Winchester, which finished earlier this year, we will now undertake a shorter route - the St Peter’s Way. This will be taken in 4 stages. Our pilgrimages are open to all: you will need to feel confidentto walk 12 miles on a variety of different paths including tarmac and with differing light levels. Pilgrims are responsible for managing their own possessions as well as travel to and from the start and finish points. The cost of each stage is £8.50 and doesn’t include additional travel and refreshments. The briefing for each walk is sent out on the Thursday preceding the pilgrimage to allow us to check for changes in weather and train timetables. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
Fishmongers Hall | Tuesday 15 September
The Friends will be visiting Fishmongers' Hall and access is strictly by advanced ticket only. Fishmongers’ Hall, the home of The Fishmongers’ Company, stands beside London Bridge on the banks of the River Thames, a close neighbour of Southwark Cathedral. The current Hall is renowned for its beautiful architecture, rich history and magnificent collection of art. We will enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful building. The cost is £19.00 if you would like to join us please contact the Friends office - Kate.dean@southwark.anglican.org.
Illustrated Lecture - Between the Covers Part II | Saturday 12 September @ 10.45am
Eight years ago the Friends heard a talk ‘Between the Covers’ on the cathedral’s antique books. Included was our collection of the works of Lancelot Andrewes. The poor condition of some of them inspired the Friends to fund their restoration in time for the 400th anniversary of Andrewes’s death which we celebrate at the end of September 2026. In the ‘Chapter II’ talk we look at the restoration and also details of the remaining medieval books of St Mary Overie’s Priory now spread across various libraries in England and France. Coffee and pastries will be available from 10.30 with the lecture beginning at 10.45. Tickets via Eventbrite: £9.50.
