If you’re visiting us this month, you will see several globe sculptures in and around the Cathedral. The sculptures were created by pupils from St Bede’s (Redhill) and Boutcher C of E Primary School are on display until Saturday 31 January.

The globes are the result of Triangle of Unity, a national learning programme developed by The World Reimagined, in partnership with the Church of England and funded by the Racial Justice Unit. Through English, Geography, and Visual Arts, young people across the UK are exploring heritage, identity, climate justice, and global connection, linking classrooms in the UK with peers in West Africa and the Caribbean. This year alone, 960 students have taken part in contributing to a growing global conversation shaped by empathy, creativity, and shared history.

Speaking at the launch, the Dean said: “The ten globes creatively designed by young people from local schools help us re-imagine the world and the story we tell about it. Their world is one of racial harmony and global citizenship in which both human dignity and the environment are protected. It is a world with hopeful horizons. We need this imagination more than ever at the moment, because the story we live in will be the story we live out – for goodness or destruction. The globe is a gift placed into our hands, and I thank the children for challenging us to remember this with gratitude and resolve.”
