Southwark Cathedral Participating in National Creative Learning Programme

Southwark Cathedral is proud to announce its participation in a new national creative learning initiative launched this year through a partnership between the Church of England and The World Reimagined. This pioneering programme brings together art, education, literacy, and social justice, inviting schools across the country to explore themes of identity, belonging, and global citizenship through a bespoke cross-curricular scheme of work.

Throughout this academic term, students from across the Southwark Diocese are engaging in thought-provoking lessons in English, Geography, Art and more, designed to deepen their understanding of the world and their place within it. As part of the programme, participating schools will also collaborate with a partner school based along the historic Atlantic Triangle, examining the contemporary challenges facing these regions today, with a particular focus on the climate crisis.

A key highlight of the initiative will see each school working alongside a professional Artist Educator to design and paint a large globe sculpture that reflects their ideas and aspirations for a fairer, more connected world. These striking artworks will be unveiled in a public exhibition at Southwark Cathedral, opening in early January 2026. The globes produced will offer visitors a vibrant showcase of students’ creativity, perspectives, and learning.

The exhibition will conclude on Saturday 31 January 2026 with a special festival co-curated by Southwark Cathedral, celebrating the art, heritage, and culture of the Atlantic Triangle. This joyful event will feature a rich programme of art, music, poetry, storytelling, puppetry, and more.

This inspiring national project provides schools with a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful social learning, ignite creativity, and contribute to a powerful, collective celebration of young people’s voices.
