All Female Quarter Peal for Southwark Ringers

The first quarter peal rung by an all female band of Southwark Cathedral Society members.

On Sunday 1 June, some of our Southwark Cathedral bell ringers completed a landmark piece of ringing, the first quarter peal by an all-women band of Southwark Cathedral ringers. This achievement has only been achieved by very few very few other 12-bell cathedrals or large churches, and usually on bells that are lighter or easier going than Southwark

Deputy ringing master Hannah Taylor said: "Ringing for an hour non-stop on bells as heavy as we have is no mean feat and to do it with a band of women is a real accomplishment. Southwark has always been such an inclusive environment and this extends up the tower as well and I'm so proud to be a part of this brilliant band of women. Looking forward to what is next!"

The quarter peal was rung in memory of Paul N Mounsey and Colin G Wright. The band would like to associate Linda Georgiades with this performance.
