An exploration of the inner story of Christianity’s first 3000 years, and the pivotal role played by Jesus.

This talk marks the publication of Mark Vernon's new book, A Secret History of Christianity: Jesus, the Last Inkling and the Evolution of Consciousness. It follows the remarkable insights of Owen Barfield who was one of the Oxford Inklings. C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien said he was the most innovative, in part because he had an entirely fresh understanding both of Jesus and Christianity.

He argued that Jesus launched a new perception of what it is to be human. It gave birth to a civilisation. Now that perception is changing again. It's another step in the spiritual evolution of humanity and illuminates not only what Christianity first offered but what it might offer now.

Come to learn about the man whom Lewis called his “wisest and best of my unofficial teachers” and whom the Franciscan writer, Richard Rohr, describes as “a paradigm-busting Christian thinker”.
