Haydn's 'Mass in Time of War' and Andrew Campling's 'Dona nobis pacem'
The London Docklands Singers and the Marcel Sinfonia perform Haydn's 'Mass in Time of War' and Andrew Campling's 'Dona nobis pacem'. The text of 'Dona nobis pacem' includes passages from the Bible, poems by Wilfred Owen, and spoken extracts from the WWI diary of Andrew's grandfather Canon William Campling (1887-1973). The diary starts with William's departure from Charing Cross on 3rd September 1918 and concludes on 11 November 1918, the day of the signing of the Armistice.
This concert also includes a performance of 'Sorrowful Dance' by Edinburgh-born composer Cecil Coles (1888-1918). Coles was killed on the Western Front while helping recover casualties.
