With John Bell of the Iona Community

Come and join us for Holy Week at Southwark Cathedral.

Many people consider Holy Week to be rather like a special journey – and at Southwark Cathedral we offer a pilgrimage journey in our own holy space; a week in which we can take time out of normal routines and busy schedules, a time to be reflective, prayerful and creative; consciously placing ourselves in the presence of God, as we walk with Jesus through the final days of his life; wait alongside the grieving disciples and rejoice in amazement afresh at Jesus’ miraculous resurrection.

We are delighted that John Bell is joining us to guide us on our journey this year. In addition to preaching at several key services through the week, he also will also be leading a three-day retreat between Monday and Wednesday. All of our services are open to everyone; joining the retreat is by application only. Spaces for the retreat are limited, and will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.

Holy Week Retreat daily pattern, Monday 26 March – Wednesday 28 March

In the Garry Weston Library

  • 10.30am – 12.30pm Addresses, discussion and conversation
  • 2.30pm – 4.00pm Liturgy, music and singing

You are also welcome to join us for the following in the Cathedral

  • 12.30 pm Midday Prayers
  • 12.45 pm Eucharist with address (Cathedral clergy)

… and there will still be plenty of time to find some lunch in the Cathedral Refectory or one of the many outlets in and around the Cathedral and Borough Market.

  • 5.30 pm Choral Evensong
