Part of London Craft Week 2018

Discover the ancient craft of stone carving in the Cathedral Churchyard.  Students and alumni from the Historic Carving Department  at the City & Guilds London School of Art will be demonstrating the skills and techniques used to transform a piece of stone into a beautiful and decorative object.

City & Guilds of London Art School is proud to offer the UK’s only Diplomas and Postgraduate Diplomas in Stone Carving and Woodcarving. The Art School has an unbroken tradition of teaching sculpture, stone carving and woodcarving since it was founded in 1879, and play a crucial role in keeping alive the skills essential for preserving the world’s most important monuments and buildings.

During London Craft Week, visitors at Southwark Cathedral will be able to watch and engage with the students and alumni as they showcase the artistic and manual skills they have developed at the School and on professional projects at some of the country’s most important heritage buildings.
