A lovely recital of Hymns, spiritual and contemporary pieces

The Chancel Choir, with 30 active members, is our Music Ministry’s premiere ensemble. Known for its strong sense of musical excellence. A highlight of the choir’s season each year is the beloved Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols, which is modeled after the order of King’s College, Cambridge. The choir sings a wide range of repertoire including masterworks, hymn settings, spirituals, and contemporary pieces. Recent major works include Handel’s Messiah, Faure’s Requiem, and Stainer’s Crucifixion.

The Conductor Justin L. Addington (Conductor) has served as the Director of Music and Organist at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina (USA) since July of 2017. Justin received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Limestone College, a master of Church Music degree in choral conducting from Concordia University Wisconsin, and a doctorate of theology in worship and liturgy from the Robert E. Webber Institute. Major conducting credits include Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Dubois’ The Seven Last Words of Christ, Stainer’s The Crucifixion, and Faure’s Requiem. Choirs under Justin’s leadership have performed in England, Italy, Austria, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Justin is a life-long United Methodist, and a frequent lecturer on the hymns of Charles Wesley and the worship traditions of the United Methodist Church.
