Southwark Cathedral are excited to be hosting a screening of the film - David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet by candlelight

Part of our programme of events for the installation of Luke Jerram’s stunning art installation Gaia which is on display at Southwark Cathedral between 11 - 30 October, the Cathedral is excited to be hosting a screening of the film - David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet.

Honest, revealing and urgent, this film is Sir David Attenborough’s witness statement for the natural world – offering a powerful first- hand account of humanity’s impact on nature and a message of hope for future generations.

Join us for this screening where Sir David looks back and shares a way forward under Luke Jerram's beautiful Gaia.

Refreshments will be available to purchase on the evening.

Certificate: PG

Run time: 1.5 hours

Please note that this is a screening only and Sir David Attenborough will not be present!

Gaia is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram. Measuring seven metres in diameter and created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface* the artwork provides the opportunity to see our planet, floating in three dimensions.

The installation aims to create a sense of the Overview Effect, which was first described by author Frank White in 1987. Common features of the experience for astronauts are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.
