The small vocal ensemble from Germany will perform a vibrant programme of works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Holst, Whitacre, Rutter and more

The vocal ensemble Vokalwerk Hamburg will be making its first international performance at Southwark Cathedral. Consisting of 18 talented singers, the choir first gained the attention of half a million viewers Germany-wide through its debut performance as part of a televised Easter service in 2018. Since then the ensemble has built a reputation for presenting vibrant a capella programmes to a high standard. Vokalwerk is conducted by Christopher Bender, cantor and organist at St Johannis, Hamburg, and receives ensemble training from opera singer Annika Mendrala.

For its recital at Southwark the choir will sing a varied programme of German and English choral works, covering all periods from the Renaissance to contemporary.

45 Minutes, Entrance free.

Due to the GAIA Installation, concert visitors will need to register in advance on Eventbrite, selecting the time slot on Friday 21 October at 3pm. The recital will be performed from the high alter, with audience seating available in the choir stalls.
