Rob Jeffries will be giving an online presentation about the 223 year history of the Thames River Police, generally accepted as being the World's very first modern, organised body of police.

Rob will outline the reasons why the Thames needed it's own body of police 31 years before the Metropolitan Police came into existence. He will also speak about how the work of London's Marine Police has changed over the years to cope with the problems faced by London in the 21st Century.

Rob is a retired police officer who served for more than 32 as a constable in the Metropolitan Police Service....The final seventeen years of that service were spent policing the River Thames in Central London.

Although Rob retired from the Met Police in 2005, he remains the Hon. Curator of the Thames Police Museum, a small but unique historic display contained within Wapping Police Station, which can itself claim the title of being the 'Spritual Home' of modern policing.
