On Tuesday 5 December, we were delighted to welcome more than 230 Year Two pupils from Diocesan Schools to the Cathedral for our ‘Journey to the Manger’
We were equally delighted to welcome all of the Education Centre volunteers and others drawn from around the Diocese who came to work with the children and played such a vital role in making the day successful.
Each class brought with them a Nativity figure which they had made in school. Each of these featured at one of the interactive and reflective stations that the children visited during the day. At each station, the children encountered the Nativity Story from the perspective of a different character, engaging in a craft activity alongside Diddy Disciples storytelling, with the stories specially customised for the Cathedral by Revd Sharon Moughtin-Mumby.
At the end of the day, the children – and their Nativity figures – came together for a final reflection and collective worship led by Canon Mandy Ford, Shaun Burns (Southwark Diocesan Board of Education) and Lisa Bewick (our Education Officer).
The children’s figures will be displayed in the St Francis and Elizabeth of Hungary chapel for part of the Christmas period.
