We are delighted that Mrs Miriam Vela, Friar Fungayi Nyandoro, and Father Mischeck Mbodza from our link diocese of Masvingo in Zimbabwe are visiting us at the beginning of September.
Our visitors arrive early on Thursday 7 September and leave us on the 10 September. Whilst with us they will have a varied programme, visiting St Saviour and St Olave’s Secondary School and Cathedral School, going to Lambeth Palace and the Globe Theatre, visiting a homeless project and a food bank, meeting staff in the Diocesan Office and doing some sightseeing. It will be an exciting opportunity for them to learn about us and for us to learn more about them.
There is an opportunity for the congregation to meet them on our Patronal Festival, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which we are celebrating on Sunday 9 September. Friar Fungayi will be preaching at both the 9.00am and 11.00am Eucharists and at 12.30pm you can meet our guests over coffee and cake to hear about life in Zimbabwe and listen to how best we can continue to support them in their work. The Mothers’ Union will be holding a cake sale that day and all the money raised will go to support the work of the MU in Masvingo.
We will publish more information about the people and timetable in the next couple of weeks and suggest ways in which you can become involved in this important Link for the Cathedral. In the meantime, please pray for our friends as they prepare for this trip and pray for the Link Group here in the Cathedral which is organising the visit.
