09.00 National Society of Painters, Sculptors and Printmakers

The National Society, born in 1930, was founded to provide artists with opportunities to follow their career free from the strictures of the 'establishment', and counting among its early members artists such as Henry Moore, Lowry, Graham Sutherland, etc. Now in its 87th year the Society continues to support emerging and established artists whose works range from contemporary realism to pure abstraction.

09.00 Vicky Mappin

Vicky Mappin is a botanical artist with a wonderful eye for the detail of nature. Her great love for the plants she finds in her beloved Sussex countryside and in her garden, shines out in her work. This is the third time Vicky will be exhibiting her work in the Refectory which includes mostly flowers from her garden.

10.00 Richard Miller: A Portrait of Southwark and Bermondsey

Winner of the National Portrait Gallery’s 2016 South of the River photo competition, Richard’s recent works observe people and places in and around Southwark and Bermondsey at a time of phenomenal change.

"I try to acknowledge the area’s rich history, capture a flavour of people living here and now and also pose the question, ‘What will people think of us 100 years from now?"

08.00 Romana Southwark - A Glimpse into the Past

Exhibition in Lancelot's Link. In partnership with the Cuming Museum and on display for the first time at the Cathedral, this collection of Roman sculptures and carved stones were discovered in 1977 when a sealed crypt located below the Cathedral choir was excavated. Dating from the 1st - 3rd Century AD many of the objects have an association with funerary practices and include a funerary ash-chest and votive altar.

10.00 Caro Rathbone - An exhibition of paintings

Caro Rathbone’s paintings are largely abstract although sometimes with representational elements. Using oils, watercolour, gouache and mixed media as seems appropriate, she aims to reflect the joys and tribulations of life in her work. Aged 19, Caro was awarded a scholarship to study painting at the Royal Academy Schools. Over the years, she has shown and sold her work in both shared and one woman exhibitions. Caro is giving all proceeds from sales from this exhibition to Southwark Cathedral where, nearly seven years ago, she was married to Bill Rathbone.

10.00 Jim Grover - Of things not seen

Of things not seen is a photo-essay by the award-winning photographer Jim Grover which tells the story of a year of ministry by the Reverend Kit Gunasekera, a Church of England priest in Clapham, South London. Originally presented at the Oxo Gallery on London’s Southbank, the exhibition attracting 7,400 visitors and extensive media coverage. It is currently touring various venues in the UK. 10.00 Chico Mentor - An exhibition of paintings

Chico paints in oil and acrylics on canvas aiming for a naive, playful and happy expression with dynamic colours and shapes. Predominating colours are fire red, yellow and green melting together in visual explosions that travel to the subconscious of the audience. Chico’s subject are the people in London and Latin America, their customs and their religion represented by the sacred symbols of the two cultures.
