13.00 Blessing and Celebration of Crossbones Garden

The Dean of Southwark Cathedral, the Very Revd. Andrew Nunn, conducts a blessing of Crossbones Garden of Remembrance, followed by a performance and picnic for St Mary Magdalene Day. 1pm Procession from Southwark Cathedral You can join the procession on the west side of the Cathedral, or gather to greet them at Crossbones Garden. 1.30pm An 'Act of Regret, Remembrance, Restoration' A service in the garden for St Mary Magdalene and the women who worked in brothels licensed by the church yet were buried in the unconsecrated Crossbones Graveyard. 2pm Performance - John Constable & Michelle Watson poems and songs from The Southwark Mysteries, inspired by Crossbones Graveyard and dedicated to Mary Magdalene, followed by poems and songs by Friends of Crossbones. 3pm Picnic in Crossbones Garden to celebrate St Mary Magdalene's Feast Day - and John's 65th Birthday! Refreshments provided. Please bring snacks and drinks to share, and leave the garden as you find it. Presented by Friends of Crossbones in association with Southwark Cathedral supported by Bankside Open Space Trust (BOST)
