Inspired by the visual richness of Southwark Cathedral, personal research into the theme ‘Objects of Desire’ and the work of fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood
Year 10 students have worked with imagination to create these extraordinarily individual and original footwear designs. Students translated their designs into sculptural forms using clay and a range of hand building techniques. Their designs transformed and developed in response to the hands on experience of clay. Working on a larger than life scale gave opportunity for greater detail and has created a monumental presence to the sculptures. Surface decoration was added by pressing into the clay to create texture and by painting on coloured slips which were then cut or scratched into (sgraffito) to reveal the underlying clay body.
Can you spot a piece of Southwark Cathedral in these designs?
