Designer (fixed-term 1-year contract)

Salary: £26,000 pa plus contributory pension

Southwark Cathedral is looking for a Designer with good all-round experience of producing quality design material and desk-top publishing. This is an exciting post for someone either starting out in a design career or someone looking to combine their design skills with a role in the vibrant and fast-moving environment of Southwark Cathedral.

You will work with people from across all areas of Cathedral life supplying high-quality printed and online material to promote different activities and communicate with our congregation and the local community. In addition to supplying publications (in the form of Orders of Service) for the Cathedral, there is ample opportunity to bring your design skills to the fore and work creatively with colleagues particularly with regard to refreshing our visual identity.

Candidates should have experience of desk-top publishing and be fluent in the use of Adobe Creative Suite 3 (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator). You should also have creative flare, be self-driven and capable of working with minimal supervision to achieve frequent, tight deadlines. A knowledge of church music and liturgy and ability to use web-based content management systems would be an advantage but not essential.

Development Officer

Salary: £30-35,000 pa (depending on experience)
plus contributory pension

We are looking to appoint a Development Officer responsible for raising funds to support the Cathedral Chapter’s priorities, principally endowing the Cathedral choirs, funding major works to the fabric of the Grade I-listed Cathedral and enabling the establishment of new work responding to the needs of the local community in this part of South London.

We are looking for a graduate with extensive fundraising experience, drive and commitment, who can seek out potential donors, prepare high-quality grant applications to trusts and foundations and enthuse all members of the Cathedral community in playing their part in achieving the Chapter’s fundraising objectives.

Candidates should have a minimum of two years’ experience in a fundraising role, possess exceptional communication skills (both written and oral) and able to handle and interpret financial information. You should also have experience of using fundraising databases, be a good researcher and able to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision.

Event Stewards

Rate: £9.40 per hour

Southwark Cathedral is looking to recruit a number of new Event Stewards to act as front of house teams at special services, concerts and events.

You will work as part of a team providing a welcome before, during and after each event, and, in conjunction with the Duty Verger, ensuring the health and safety of those attending.

All posts are offered on a casual basis according to availability (but with no guarantee of minimum hours). A period of duty is normally between 2 and 4 hours in length.

The successful applicants will be in sympathy with the aims and objectives of the Anglican Church, have excellent customer skills, able to use initiative and capable of handling large numbers of people with care and sensitivity.
